When “Command Prompt” opens, write “sfc/scannow” where the cursor blinks and then hit the “Enter” button. This action is supposed to scan the system and get rid of any system file errors automatically.

The next thing you need to do is to run the function called “CHKDSK” by opening the Command Prompt again. After the file is done running, restart the system once again.   • Right-click on the icon of the third-party software and simply click on the option that says “Disable Auto-Protect”. 
  • Now, a “Security Request” box will appear, where you will have to select a certain time period from the “Duration” option. 
  • Choose the preferred time limit and then click on the “OK” button. (It is advisable to choose a time limit which is within the range of 15 to 30 minutes.)

  • When it launches, select the “Windows Firewall” option under the “System & Security” option. 
  • On the left panel, click on the option that says “Turn Windows Firewall On Or Off”.

Solution 3: Update Windows OS

To update Windows OS, open the “Update and Security” option by using the “Windows” and the “I” key. Select it and then choose the “Check For Updates” option. This action will show you if there is any update that you have missed or if it’s pending.

  • First, you need to launch the “Services” box by using the “Windows” and the “R” key. Then, when the “Run” box appears, write “Services.msc” in the blank field and then hit the “Enter” button. 
  • Among the list of services that are running, locate the “Windows Defender Antivirus Network Inspection Service”, “Windows Defender Security Center Service” and “Windows Defender Antivirus Service”.
  • Now, double click on all the three files and under the “General” tab, set the “Startup” to “Automatic”. Make sure that you’ve set it automatic to all the three Defender files and then click on the “OK” button, followed by the “Start” button. 

Solution 5: Turn On Windows Defender Using Registry

To enable Windows Defender directly through the registry, open the “Run” box and type in “regedit” and hit the “Enter” button. 

Now, locate the file 

“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinDefend”, right-click on it. 

Then, click on the “Permission” option. Locate and double click on the option “Start DWORD”. When the box appears, set the “Value Data” to “2”, set the “Base” to “Hexadecimal” and then hit the “OK” button. 

Now, exit the “Registry” and restart the system. Then, launch Windows Defender and check if the error still persists or not. 

Solution 6: Get Rid of Malware 

Often times, malware or malicious files could affect the system and thus the Defender fails to work. To clear them off the system, do the following:

From a verified website, download the “CCleaner” and install it. Then launch it and run it. You will have a list of files and applications that are both in-built and externally installed to be scanned. 

Once you’ve ticked the files and applications that you would like to scan, click on the “Run Cleaner” option. It is advisable to do a deep clean by scanning the Registry and all the files that come under it. 

Choose the “Scan for Issues” and then click on the option that says “Fix Selected Issues”. Now, the CCleaner will ask you to back up changes. Click on the “Yes” button to allow it and then back up will start. 

Once the back up is done, click on the “Fix Selected Issues” to scan and solve the issues. Then, restart the operating system and check if the error has been fixed or not.

To restore the PC, you need to go through a few basic steps. Using the “Windows” and the “I” button, launch “Settings” and then choose the option that says “Update and Security’. From the left panel, choose “Recovery” and then select the “Get Started” option.
